eBay uses your phone number for account security, sign-in verification, alerts, and buyer or seller communication. Updating it only takes a few minutes once you find the right account settings page.
Does this affect you?
Use this for personal eBay accounts on eBay.com or in the eBay app. Business accounts may also have a public business contact number to update.
Update your phone number in Account Settings
This works from the website or app.
- Sign in to eBay.
- Open My eBay > Account > Personal Information.
- Find the Phone number row and choose Edit.
- Enter the new number, including area code.
- Choose Save or Continue.
- Enter the verification code eBay sends to the new number.
- If the text does not arrive, use Call me instead if offered.
Business account phone details
Business sellers may have another number visible to buyers.
- Check Public business info for a buyer-facing contact number.
- If the number is a landline, mark it as a landline if eBay asks.
- Use the automated call verification option when text messages are not possible.
- Keep private account-security phone numbers and public business contact numbers both current.
More control
Fix missing verification texts
If the text never arrives, wait a few minutes, confirm the number, check short-code blocking with your carrier, and temporarily disable SMS spam-filtering apps.
Complete identity checks first
If eBay asks you to verify identity before changing settings, follow the on-screen check. It may ask about a recent order, email, or other account detail.
Update after phone changes
Change the number soon after switching carriers. Old numbers can be reassigned, and eBay verification texts should not keep going to someone else.
