Google Voice does not have a separate password. Access to your Voice number depends on the Google Account behind it, so recovering Voice usually means recovering that Google Account first.

Recover the Google Account behind your Voice number
This is the main path back into Google Voice.
- Go to g.co/recover and enter the Google Account email address, or the phone number if that is all you remember.
- Enter the last password you remember. It can still help Google verify you even if it is not current.
- Use any offered verification method, such as recovery phone, recovery email, backup code, or prompt on a trusted device.
- If none are available, answer Google’s account questions as specifically as you can.
- After access returns, open myaccount.google.com > Security and set a new unique password.
- Open voice.google.com and confirm the Voice number, settings, and call history are still present.
Your number was already released
Use this if the account is recovered but the Voice number is gone.
- Open voice.google.com while signed into the recovered account.
- Check Settings to see whether a Google Voice number is still assigned.
- If the number is gone, Google may have released it after long inactivity on a free personal Voice account. The same exact number usually cannot be reclaimed once reassigned.
- Set up a new Google Voice number from voice.google.com.
- Update banks, accounts, contacts, and two-factor settings that used the old Voice number.
More control
Keep the number active
If you rarely use Google Voice, make a call, send a text, or sign in periodically so the number is not treated as inactive. A recurring reminder helps.
Improve Google recovery settings
Open Security > Ways we can verify it is you and add a current recovery phone and email. Turn on 2-Step Verification and save backup codes outside your phone.
Consider porting important numbers
If losing the number would affect business, family, or account recovery, review Google Voice porting options. A number you actively pay to keep or port may be less likely to disappear through inactivity.
