A forgotten Nintendo Account password is usually quick to fix if you can still access the email on the account. Use Nintendo’s reset link from a browser or from the Switch sign-in screen.
Does this affect you?
Use this for Nintendo Accounts on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Nintendo eShop, and accounts.nintendo.com when the account is not suspended or hacked and you simply forgot the password.
Reset your password at accounts.nintendo.com
This works from any phone or computer browser.
- Go to accounts.nintendo.com and choose Sign in.
- Select I forgot my Nintendo Account ID/password.
- Enter the account email address or Nintendo Account ID.
- Open Nintendo’s reset email and use the link before it expires.
- Create a password that meets Nintendo’s requirements.
- Sign back in on the website, Switch, and eShop with the new password.
Reset directly from your Nintendo Switch
Use this if the console is in front of you.
- From the Switch Home Menu, open System Settings.
- Select Users and choose your user profile.
- Open Nintendo Account Info, then Sign In/Sign Out.
- Tap Forgot your password on the sign-in screen.
- Enter the account email and follow the reset email process.
- Return to the console and sign in with the new password.
More control
Check spam and alternate emails
Nintendo reset messages may land in spam or promotions. If nothing arrives, try other emails you may have used for games, family accounts, or subscriptions.
Two-step verification adds another requirement
If two-step verification is enabled, you may need an authenticator code or saved backup code after resetting. Without either, contact Nintendo Support for identity verification.
Update the account email
After signing in, open Account Settings and confirm the email is one you will keep. If the email account is gone, self-service reset cannot work normally.
