The bookmarks bar is the row of quick website shortcuts under the address bar. It is helpful when you want one-click access to favorite sites, and easy to hide when you need more vertical space. Each major browser has its own name and shortcut for it.
Does this affect you?
Use this for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge on Windows or Mac when the bookmarks bar disappeared, or when you want to hide it intentionally.
Chrome and Edge
Chrome and Edge use the same keyboard shortcut.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+B on Windows or Cmd+Shift+B on Mac to toggle the bar.
- Or open the browser menu.
- In Chrome, choose Bookmarks and lists > Show bookmarks bar.
- In Edge, choose Favorites > Show favorites bar.
- Repeat the shortcut or menu action to hide it again.
Firefox
Firefox calls it the Bookmarks Toolbar and gives three visibility choices.
- Right-click empty space near the tabs or on the toolbar.
- Open Bookmarks Toolbar.
- Choose Always Show, Never Show, or Only Show on New Tab.
Safari
Safari calls it the Favorites bar.
- Click View in the Mac menu bar.
- Choose Show Favorites Bar or Hide Favorites Bar.
- Use Cmd+Shift+B as the keyboard shortcut.
More control
Add a page to the bar
In most browsers, drag the lock or site icon from the address bar onto the bar. In Chrome and Edge, the star icon can also save the page directly to the bookmarks bar folder.
Fit more bookmarks
Right-click a bookmark and edit or rename it. Removing the visible name leaves only the site icon, which saves space for frequently used shortcuts.
Use folders
Right-click empty space on the bar and add a folder. Folders keep work, shopping, finance, or travel bookmarks in dropdowns instead of one long row.
