Spectrum self-install works best when you connect the modem first, wait for it to come online, then activate service through the app or website. First activation can take longer than a normal restart.
Does this affect you?
Use this if a Spectrum Internet self-install kit arrived and you need to set up a modem, separate router, or combined gateway without a technician visit.
Set up the kit
Check the included sheet first because some kits use separate boxes and others use one gateway.
- Connect the coaxial cable from the wall outlet to the modem coax input.
- Plug the modem into power.
- Wait for the Online or Internet light to become solid. First activation can take 5 to 15 minutes.
- If the kit has a separate router, connect modem Ethernet to the router WAN/Internet port, then power on the router.
- Connect a phone or computer to the new Wi-Fi using the label name and password.
- Open the My Spectrum app or go to spectrum.net/selfinstall.
- Follow activation prompts and allow any modem restart to finish.
If activation stalls
Give first-time activation enough time before changing cables repeatedly.
- Wait a full 15 to 20 minutes if the online light is still blinking.
- Unplug the modem for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait again.
- Try activation from the website if the app fails, or from the app if the website times out.
- If the modem never moves beyond power after 20 minutes, the coax outlet may not be active on Spectrum side. Contact support.
More control
Use the right coax outlet
An old cable-TV jack may not be connected anymore. If one outlet never activates, try another known active outlet or ask Spectrum to provision the line.
Return old Spectrum equipment
If this kit replaced older rented gear, return the old modem/router through Spectrum instructions so it does not become an unreturned-equipment charge.
