Frontier Router Login and Setup: Step by Step

Frontier router setup and admin login

Frontier supplies different routers for fiber and DSL, but the basics are similar: connect the service line, power up, join the label Wi-Fi, activate service, then use the app or local admin page for changes.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Frontier-provided routers, including SmartRG-style units and newer Frontier Wi-Fi 6 gateways.

Set up a new Frontier router

Plugging things in order prevents many setup stalls.

  1. Connect the router to the fiber ONT with Ethernet, or to the DSL wall jack with the proper phone cable and filters.
  2. Plug the router into power and wait 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Connect a phone or laptop to the Wi-Fi name printed on the router label.
  4. Open activate.frontier.com or use the MyFrontier app.
  5. Follow activation prompts and then change Wi-Fi name/password if desired.

Log into an existing Frontier router

Use this for settings changes after the router is online.

  1. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1.
  2. Check the router label for admin username and password, which are separate from the Wi-Fi password.
  3. If the label does not show admin credentials, try admin/password or check MyFrontier Equipment settings.
  4. If 192.168.1.1 does not load, try 192.168.254.254 on some newer fiber gateways.
  5. Open Wireless, Network, or Settings depending on your router model.

More control

The app may work when local login does not

MyFrontier can often restart the router, show status, and change basic Wi-Fi through Frontier cloud tools.

Red or amber lights are not login problems

A solid red or blinking amber light usually points to connection or hardware trouble, not bad admin credentials.
