CenturyLink gateways combine modem and router functions, with a local admin page for connection status, Wi-Fi settings, port forwarding, and advanced options. The login details are usually printed on the device label.
Does this affect you?
Use this for CenturyLink-provided routers and modem/router combos such as C3000Z, C4000XG, and similar models.
Log into an already set-up router
Use any device connected to the CenturyLink router.
- Connect by Ethernet or to the router Wi-Fi network.
- Open a browser and try 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Try the other address if the first does not load.
- Check the bottom or side label for the default username and password. Many CenturyLink devices use unique credentials.
- Enter the label credentials, or the changed admin password if you set one earlier.
- Use Status, Wireless, Home Network, or similar tabs to check service, change Wi-Fi, or manage advanced settings.
Set up a brand-new CenturyLink router
Use this for first installation or a replacement unit.
- Connect the router to the DSL phone jack or fiber jack using the included cable.
- Plug in power and wait for the power/internet light to become steady.
- Connect a phone or laptop to the default Wi-Fi name printed on the label.
- Open connect.centurylink.com or the address in your setup material and follow activation prompts.
- After activation, log into the admin page and set your own Wi-Fi name and password.
More control
Changing Wi-Fi is optional but useful
CenturyLink label passwords are usually unique, but setting your own Wi-Fi name and password can make reconnection easier.
Forgotten admin password requires reset
Hold the recessed reset button for about 10 seconds to restore label defaults. This also erases custom Wi-Fi, port forwards, and other settings.
Bridge mode is for your own router
If you want to use a separate router, the CenturyLink unit may need bridge mode. Some fiber setups may require provider help.
Check broadband status first
The Status or Broadband page can show line sync and signal quality before you assume Wi-Fi is the cause.
