ASUS routers are managed from a local web admin page or the ASUS Router app. The router admin login is separate from the Wi-Fi password you use to connect devices.
Does this affect you?
Use this for ASUS RT, ZenWiFi, and AiMesh routers when you need to change Wi-Fi details, port forwarding, firmware, or other settings.
Log in with the default address
Connect to the router network before opening the admin page.
- Connect by Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Ethernet is best during setup.
- Open a browser and go to router.asus.com or 192.168.1.1.
- If the browser warns that the local connection is not private, continue to the local router page.
- Try the default username admin and password admin, unless the sticker shows a unique password.
- After login, use the dashboard to manage Wi-Fi, connected devices, and firmware.
Reset a forgotten password
If the admin password was changed and lost, factory reset is usually the only way back in.
- Find the recessed Reset button on the router.
- With the router powered on, hold Reset for about 10 seconds until the power light changes or flashes.
- Wait for the router to restart.
- Log in again with the default credentials or sticker password.
- Set a new admin password immediately.
More control
Factory reset removes custom settings
A reset erases Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi password, admin login, port forwards, parental controls, and AiMesh configuration. You will need to set the router up again.
The ASUS Router app can be easier
The phone app can find the router automatically when your phone is connected to the ASUS network and can handle most daily settings.
AiMesh uses the main router
In an AiMesh system, log into the primary router. Mesh nodes do not need separate administration for normal changes.
Change the default admin password
Leaving admin/admin in place is risky because anyone on your Wi-Fi could try public defaults.
