AT&T gateways combine modem and router functions in one box. Setup usually means connecting the gateway correctly, waiting for activation, then using Smart Home Manager or the local admin page for changes.
Does this affect you?
Use this for AT&T Internet or AT&T Fiber gateways such as BGW210, BGW320, and older Pace or Arris models.
Set up a new AT&T gateway
Do this for a new or replacement gateway.
- Connect the gateway to the wall jack or fiber ONT using the provided cable.
- Plug in power.
- Wait for Power and Broadband/Internet lights to turn solid; first activation can take 5 to 10 minutes.
- Use the AT&T Smart Home Manager app, or connect to the default Wi-Fi name and password printed on the gateway label.
- When internet is solid, change the default Wi-Fi name and password.
Log into the gateway admin page
Use this when the gateway is already online and you need settings.
- Connect to the gateway Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Open a browser and go to 192.168.1.254.
- Use the Device Access Code printed on the side label if asked. This is different from the Wi-Fi password.
- Manage connected devices, firewall options, and port forwarding under Firewall > NAT/Gaming.
Reset a gateway that will not respond
Use factory reset only when activation stalls or the gateway is unresponsive.
- Find the recessed Reset button on the back.
- Hold it for about 10 seconds until lights cycle.
- Wait several minutes for restart and reactivation.
- Set up Wi-Fi again if custom settings were erased.
More control
Factory reset restores label defaults
A reset erases custom Wi-Fi names, passwords, and firewall settings. Devices must reconnect using the default or new details.
Smart Home Manager is often faster
For pausing devices, viewing connected clients, speed tests, and restarting the gateway, the AT&T app is usually easier than the browser page.
Model wording varies
BGW, Pace, and Arris gateways use the same general address, but menus can differ slightly.
