A false out-of-paper message is often caused by the way the stack sits in the tray. Printers use small sensors and pickup rollers, and crooked, sticky, curled, or poorly seated paper can look like an empty tray.

Use this when an inkjet or laser printer says No Paper, Load Paper, or Out of Paper even though the tray is full.
Remove the tray fully and reload paper
Topping up the tray without removing it may not reset the sensor.
- Pull the paper tray all the way out.
- Remove the paper stack.
- Fan the edges to separate sheets.
- Square the stack on a flat surface.
- Reload it under any corner clips or tabs.
- Move the width guides until they just touch the paper.
- Push the tray fully in until seated and test again.
Clean the paper sensor
Dust and paper fibers can block the sensor.
- Remove the tray and paper.
- Look inside the tray slot for a small lever, wheel, or window-like sensor near the back or bottom.
- Gently wipe dust away with a dry lint-free cloth or cotton swab.
- Do not force small moving levers.
- Reload the tray and print a test page.

Check manual feed slots
A sheet stuck or misaligned in a manual feed slot can override the main tray and trigger a paper warning.
Humidity can fool the feed system
Damp paper sticks or curls. Store paper wrapped until use, especially in humid rooms.
Worn rollers or sensors may need service
If the error returns after proper loading and cleaning, older printers may need pickup rollers or sensor service.
