Zoom uses different messages for different lockouts. A temporary password lock, an organization-admin deactivation, and error 1003 all need different fixes, so start by reading the exact wording.
Does this affect you?
Use this for Zoom on desktop, mobile, or zoom.us when sign-in says the account is locked, blocked, disabled, inactive, or your organization administrator must be contacted.
Temporary lock after failed attempts
This usually appears after several wrong passwords in a row.
- Stop trying to sign in for the moment. More attempts can keep the lock active.
- Wait about 30 minutes.
- Try again with a password you trust.
- If you are not sure of the password, use Forgot password on the Zoom sign-in page instead of guessing.
- Use the reset email to set a new password and sign in.
- If someone else may have caused the failed attempts, treat it as a possible compromise after you regain access.
Account deactivated by a school or work admin
This message usually says to contact the account owner or administrator.
- Understand that Zoom Support usually cannot override an organization admin from outside the account.
- Contact your school IT team, company IT department, or Zoom account owner.
- Ask them to reactivate your user profile or license in the Zoom Admin Portal.
- If you do not know the admin, check your original Zoom invitation email or ask whoever manages other school or company software.
Account disabled for Terms of Service issue
Error 1003 is not a password problem.
- If the message says Account is disabled. Please contact Support (1,003), do not rely on password reset.
- Go to support.zoom.us and open a support ticket.
- Mention error 1003 directly so the ticket routes correctly.
- Explain what you were doing around the time the account was disabled so Zoom can review the flag.
More control
Report possible compromise
If the lock followed strange meetings, unknown activity, or password-guessing attempts, use Zoom’s Trust and Safety account-issue report and change the password once you can sign in.
Use a unique Zoom password
Do not reuse passwords from email, work tools, or other apps. A leaked password from another site can trigger failed attempts or account takeover attempts.
Know when reset will not help
Password reset can fix forgotten credentials and temporary locks. It will not reactivate a work-managed account disabled by an admin or a Terms of Service error 1003 case.
