An Xbox that cannot find or join Wi-Fi is usually dealing with a stale router state, weak signal, wrong password, router setting, or saved network problem.
These steps apply to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One using wireless Wi-Fi.
Does this affect you?
Use this if your Xbox cannot see your Wi-Fi network, fails after the password, or connects but does not pass the network test.
Restart your network and reconnect
A full router and modem restart fixes many Wi-Fi connection failures.
- Unplug the router from power.
- If the modem is separate, unplug it too.
- Wait a full 60 seconds.
- Plug in the modem first and wait for normal lights.
- Plug in the router and wait for it to settle.
- On Xbox, open Settings > General > Network settings.
- Refresh available networks and choose your Wi-Fi.
- Re-enter the password carefully and run Test network connection.
Watch for similar-looking characters such as zero and letter O, or lowercase l and uppercase I.
Check router settings and signal strength
If reconnecting fails, look at distance, bands, and router rules.
- Move the Xbox and router closer together temporarily.
- Remove large obstacles between them.
- Try the 2.4 GHz network if 5 GHz is unreliable at distance.
- Open the router admin page and check MAC address filtering.
- Make sure the router has not reached its connected-device limit.
- Test another phone or laptop on the same Wi-Fi.
If other devices also fail, the router or ISP is the issue. If only Xbox fails, focus on saved settings or the console’s wireless adapter.
Extra Wi-Fi fixes
Ethernet is the best test if the router is nearby. If wired works immediately, the problem is specifically Wi-Fi.
Under Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings, try Manual DNS with 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 if ISP DNS appears unreliable.
Forget the saved network if the option appears, then reconnect from scratch. If every device in the home is offline, check your internet provider status before changing more Xbox settings.
