If an Xbox powers on but the TV shows a black screen or No Signal, the cause is usually the HDMI connection or a video mode the display cannot show. Hardware failure is possible, but check the simple display path first.
These steps apply to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One consoles connected over HDMI.

Use this if the console light or startup sound confirms the Xbox is on, but the TV or monitor shows no picture.
Check the physical HDMI connection
Most black screen cases are cable, input, or TV-port problems.
- Use the TV remote Source or Input button and choose the HDMI input connected to the Xbox.
- Unplug the HDMI cable from both the Xbox and TV.
- Plug both ends back in firmly.
- Test a different HDMI cable if one is available.
- Try a different HDMI port on the TV.
- Temporarily disable HDMI-CEC or similar auto-input switching on the TV.
If the picture returns after any of these steps, the Xbox itself was likely fine.
Reset the video output
If the cable and input are good, the Xbox may be sending a resolution or refresh rate the display cannot handle.
- Turn off the Xbox by holding the console Xbox button for about 10 seconds.
- With the console off, hold Pair and Eject.
- While holding those buttons, press the Xbox button on the console.
- Keep holding for 10 to 15 seconds until you hear the second power-up tone.
- Release the buttons and let the console boot into low-resolution video.
- Use Video Fidelity and Overscan or TV & display options to choose the correct resolution.
On all-digital models without an Eject button, use a full power cycle instead: hold the Xbox button for 10 seconds, unplug power for one minute, reconnect, and turn it on.
4K HDR, second displays, and repair signs
Some TVs do not handle the Xbox’s 4K HDR output correctly at first. After resetting video, choose 1080p, confirm the picture works, then enable 4K and HDR one setting at a time.
If possible, connect the Xbox to another TV or monitor. That is the quickest way to separate a console output problem from a display problem.
If dashboard sounds play through speakers or a headset, the Xbox is running and the issue is video signal, not a full console failure.
If no cable, port, display, or video reset restores a picture, the HDMI output hardware may need Xbox Support repair.
