Uninstalling WhatsApp removes the app from your phone, but it does not delete the account. To remove the number, profile, groups, and account data, use Delete My Account inside WhatsApp.

Delete your account from inside the app
This is the official account deletion route.
- Open WhatsApp.
- Open Settings. On Android, use the three-dot menu; on iPhone, use the Settings tab.
- Tap Account.
- Choose Delete My Account.
- Enter your phone number in full international format.
- Choose a reason if you want to; it is optional.
- Tap Delete My Account to confirm.
- WhatsApp signs you out of linked devices such as WhatsApp Web and Desktop.
More control
Save chats before deletion
Chat history cannot be recovered after account deletion. Export individual chats or create a final backup before proceeding if you need records.
Handle groups first
If you are the only admin of a group, promote someone else before deleting your account. Otherwise the group may be left without the admin setup you intended.
Deletion is different from uninstalling
Uninstalling is reversible and keeps the account tied to your number. Deleting removes the account; if you return later, you register the phone number like a new account and old chats do not carry over.
