On a Vizio TV, No Signal means the TV is on but not receiving video from the selected input. The usual causes are wrong input selection, a loose HDMI cable, a sleeping device, weak streaming-stick power, or a stuck HDMI handshake.
These steps apply to Vizio SmartCast TVs and older Vizio models with HDMI inputs.
Does this affect you?
Use this if a Vizio TV says No Signal even though a cable box, console, streaming device, laptop, or Blu-ray player is connected and turned on.
Confirm the correct input
- Press Input or Source on the Vizio remote.
- Cycle through the inputs one at a time.
- Pause a few seconds on each input because Vizio TVs may take a moment to detect video.
- Check the physical HDMI number where your device is plugged in.
- Select that exact HDMI input.
- Do not rely only on HDMI-CEC auto-switching.
If the picture appears after selecting the right input, the TV was simply looking at an empty port.
Check HDMI cable and port
- Unplug the HDMI cable from both the Vizio TV and the connected device.
- Reconnect both ends firmly.
- Try another HDMI port and switch the input to match.
- Swap in another HDMI cable.
- If the source device has another output, test that too.
If another cable or port works, the original cable or port was the real fault.
Restart the device and TV
- Unplug the connected device for about 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and let it fully restart.
- Unplug the Vizio TV from the wall for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Select the correct input again.
If the source is a streaming stick powered by the TV’s USB port, use the stick’s wall adapter if it has one. Some TV USB ports do not supply enough power for stable video output.
Resolution, HDCP, updates, and repair
A computer or console set to an unsupported resolution or refresh rate can show as No Signal. Connect it to another display and reset output to a standard option such as 1080p at 60Hz, then test the Vizio again.
Cable boxes and Blu-ray players rely on HDCP copy protection. If that handshake fails, try a High Speed or Premium High Speed HDMI cable, especially for 4K.
Check for Vizio updates under Menu > System > Check for Updates, or Admin & Privacy > System Information on newer models. If a known-good device and cable work on another TV but fail on the Vizio after every test, the HDMI hardware may need service.
