Steam maintenance or outages can stop login, purchases, Community features, Steam Cloud, or the Store. The symptoms can look like a local PC issue, so confirm the service status first.
These steps apply to the Steam client, Steam website, and Steam mobile app.

Use this if Steam says it is temporarily unavailable, will not log in, spins forever, or Store and Community pages fail at the same time.
Confirm it’s really Steam’s servers
A quick status check keeps you from troubleshooting a problem that belongs to Valve.
- Open a browser and search for Steam status or visit a known Steam status page.
- Check Login, Store, Community, Cloud, and other services separately.
- Search an outage tracker if the official status has not updated yet.
- Open the Steam Community website directly in a browser.
- If the website fails too, the issue is likely broader than your desktop client.
- If the website works but the client does not, exit Steam fully and reopen it.
If status pages show Steam is down, wait. There is no local fix for a server-side outage.
Know what still works during maintenance
Steam maintenance does not always take every feature offline at once.
- Valve has historically run regular maintenance on Tuesday afternoons or evenings Pacific Time.
- Purchases, Community, Cloud, or login can be briefly unavailable during maintenance.
- Offline Mode can usually launch already installed single-player games.
- Games with online multiplayer or Steam DRM checks may still be affected.
- If a purchase failed during maintenance, check email and purchase history before trying again.
- Scheduled maintenance is usually short; sale and launch outages can last longer.
If you see a short outage around the same time each week, it may be routine maintenance rather than a new problem.
Rule out your own connection
Restart your router if other websites also fail. A local internet issue can happen at the same time you are checking Steam and look like maintenance.
Valve’s own support channels and status tools are more reliable than old forum posts during a busy sale or launch.
