Locked Out of Snapchat: How to Get Back In

Snapchat lockouts usually come from one of two places: Snapchat temporarily locked the account for security reasons, or the password and recovery details are not working. Identifying which message you see saves time.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Snapchat on iPhone or Android when the app says the account is temporarily locked, rejects your password, or will not let you complete login.

If Snapchat says the account is temporarily locked

This often follows unusual activity, third-party app use, a new-location login, or many failed attempts.

  1. Open a browser and go to accounts.snapchat.com.
  2. Sign in and look for the Unlock option. Use that first, because it is Snapchat’s official self-service unlock route.
  3. If Unlock is not available or does not work, stop trying for a while. Temporary locks often clear after about 48 hours, though heavier security flags can last longer.
  4. Avoid repeatedly attempting to log in during the waiting period. Rapid attempts can extend or restart the lock.
  5. If the lock seems wrong, submit one request through Snapchat Support under Submit a request or Contact us. Appeals may take up to 30 days.
  6. Uninstall any unofficial Snapchat client, filter tool, or account-growth app before trying again.

If Snapchat rejects the username or password

This is usually a standard password reset rather than a security lock.

  1. Confirm you are using the Snapchat username, not just a display name.
  2. On the login screen, tap Forgot your password.
  3. Choose reset by email or SMS, whichever contact method you can still access.
  4. Open the reset link or enter the SMS code.
  5. Create a new password and sign in.
  6. If you cannot reach the email or phone number on file, choose Need more help and follow Snapchat’s recovery prompts.

More control

Remove third-party tools

Unofficial Snapchat apps, streak tools, fake premium apps, and filter utilities often ask for your login. Snapchat treats them as a security risk and may lock the account.

Keep recovery contacts current

Both lock and password-reset flows rely on the email and phone number attached to Snapchat. Update them under Settings > My Account whenever they change.

Enable two-factor authentication

Settings > Two-Factor Authentication adds a second step to new logins. It helps protect the account and can reduce suspicious-login flags because Snapchat has stronger proof it is really you.

Slow down password attempts

Trying many old passwords in a row can create the same pattern that caused the lock. If a few attempts fail, switch to password reset.
