A Samsung washer showing dE, dE1, dE2, dC, or dc usually cannot confirm that the door is closed and locked. Because the washer will not run safely with an unlocked door, it stops and reports the code.
These steps apply mainly to Samsung front-load washers with door-lock sensing. On some models, dC can mean an unbalanced load instead, so redistribute the laundry first if the door clearly closes normally.
Does this affect you?
The dE family of codes points to the door area: something is blocking the door, the gasket is not seating, the latch is not engaging, the lock switch is not reporting properly, or the wiring/control board is misreading the signal.
Reclose the door and power cycle
- Press Power to turn the washer off.
- Open the door fully and remove socks, sleeves, or laundry caught in the gasket.
- Close the door firmly until the latch clicks.
- Turn the washer on and start a cycle.
- If the code appears immediately, unplug the washer for one minute, plug it back in, and test again.
Check and clean the door seal and latch area
- Wipe the rubber gasket, especially the folds where lint and detergent residue collect.
- Inspect the gasket for tears near the latch side.
- Look at the latch on the door for cracks, looseness, or misalignment.
- Close the door and confirm it sits flush with no visible gap.
- Run a short test cycle.
Unplug the washer before removing any panel or checking the door-lock assembly. Never bypass, tape, or defeat the door lock switch. It is a real safety interlock for water and a spinning drum. If water is standing in the drum, drain it safely before trying to open or service anything.
Test or replace the door lock switch
If the gasket and latch look good but the code keeps returning, the lock switch assembly may be failing.
- With the washer unplugged, check the lock area for visible cracks or corrosion if accessible.
- A loose connector at the lock can cause intermittent dE errors.
- The door lock switch is a common replacement part, but access varies by Samsung generation.
- If cleaning and reseating do not help, the wiring harness or main board may be misreading the lock signal.
Call an appliance technician if dE persists after power cycling, cleaning, and a visual latch check. Check warranty coverage first because door-lock assemblies may be covered within parts warranty periods.
