Samsung TV volume problems often come from audio routing, not a broken remote. The remote may be controlling a soundbar, receiver, Bluetooth speaker, or HDMI ARC device instead of the TV speakers.
These steps apply to Samsung Smart TVs running Tizen, including Crystal UHD, QLED, and Neo QLED models.

Use this if volume buttons do nothing, no volume bar appears, or the volume bar moves but sound does not change.
Check soundbar or receiver control
- Check whether a soundbar or AV receiver is connected by HDMI ARC, eARC, optical, or Bluetooth.
- Make sure the external speaker is powered on.
- Open Settings > Sound > Sound Output.
- Choose TV Speaker if you want the TV speakers controlled.
- Choose the soundbar or receiver if that is your intended audio output.
- Test volume with the external device on and off.
If turning on the soundbar fixes volume immediately, the remote was sending commands to the soundbar rather than the TV.
Re-pair the remote and replace batteries
- Remove remote batteries for 10 seconds.
- Install a fresh pair.
- Stand about three feet from the TV.
- Hold Return and Play/Pause for about three seconds.
- Wait for confirmation or a standby-light blink.
- Try the TV’s physical controls as a separate test.
If the TV buttons change volume but the remote does not, focus on the remote or pairing.
Check Sound Output
Go to Settings > Sound > Sound Output. If it is set to Optical, HDMI ARC, Bluetooth Speaker List, or another external output when nothing is connected or powered, the TV’s volume may appear ineffective.
Switch to TV Speaker for built-in speaker sound, or select the correct external device and turn that device on.
Other causes
If all menus feel sluggish, unplug the TV for 60 seconds to clear a Smart Hub or Tizen freeze. Use the SmartThings app over Wi-Fi to test volume; if the app works but the physical remote does not, the remote is isolated as the issue.
If the on-screen volume bar moves normally on TV Speaker output but no sound plays at any level, the internal speakers may have failed. Using an HDMI ARC soundbar is usually more practical than repairing built-in TV speakers.
