How to Set Up Samsung Kids Mode

Samsung Kids mode setup illustration

Samsung Kids turns a Galaxy phone or tablet into a locked child-friendly space with approved apps, simplified content, and a parent PIN required to leave. It is best for handing your own device to a child for a session.

These steps apply to Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets running One UI. Samsung Kids is preinstalled on many devices or available from the Galaxy Store.

Does This Affect You?

Use this if you want a child to use a Galaxy device without opening your messages, regular apps, browser, store, or settings.

Set Up Samsung Kids for the First Time

  1. Open Samsung Kids from the app drawer or Quick Settings.
  2. If it is missing, search the Galaxy Store for Samsung Kids and install it.
  3. Tap Get started or Start.
  4. Create a parent PIN that a child will not guess.
  5. Enter the child name and birthdate if prompted.
  6. Follow the setup prompts until the kid-safe Home Screen appears.

You can create more than one child profile when multiple children share the same device.

Choose Apps, Content, and Time Limits

  1. Inside Samsung Kids, open the parent settings icon and enter the parent PIN.
  2. Open Parental Controls, Content, or the matching settings area.
  3. Under Apps, allow only the installed apps you want visible inside Kids mode.
  4. Keep messaging, browser, store, or other sensitive apps turned off unless you specifically want them available.
  5. Set the Daily Timer or usage time limit.
  6. Save or back out of settings. Changes apply to the Samsung Kids environment.

Exit Samsung Kids

  1. Tap the small lock icon, Samsung Kids logo, or parent menu.
  2. Enter the parent PIN.
  3. The device returns to the normal Samsung Home Screen.

If you forget the parent PIN, use the Forgot PIN or account recovery prompt tied to your Samsung account instead of guessing repeatedly.

Samsung Kids Notes

Samsung Kids vs Family Link

Samsung Kids locks down this specific Galaxy device. Google Family Link supervises a child Google Account across devices and can be managed remotely from a parent phone. They solve different problems and can be used together.

Availability Can Vary

Some carrier or regional builds do not preinstall Samsung Kids. Use the Galaxy Store search if the app is not already on the device.

Profiles Can Have Different Rules

If several children use the same device, each profile can have its own app list, content level, and timer.

Samsung Account Backup

Samsung Kids can work without a Samsung account, but linking one can help back up profile settings for resets or replacement devices.
