Buffering usually means the stream is not receiving enough data at that moment. The cause is often the speed reaching that device, weak Wi-Fi in that room, or another device using bandwidth at the same time.

Work through the likely causes
Start with the basics because most streaming problems are fixed early in the list.
- Check the speed your service needs. Standard definition may need about 3 Mbps, HD about 5 Mbps, and 4K/Ultra HD about 15 Mbps per stream. Several 4K streams at once add up quickly.
- Move the streaming device closer to the router, or move the router closer to the viewing area if possible.
- Use Ethernet for a smart TV or streaming box that stays in one place. A wired connection removes Wi-Fi signal problems from the equation.
- Check for large downloads, cloud backups, game updates, or another person streaming 4K at the same time.
- Restart the router and the streaming device to clear temporary equipment or app issues.
- Lower playback quality manually as a short-term workaround if the app offers that setting.
- Try a different DNS provider, such as Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 or Google 8.8.8.8, if delays happen mostly when streams start.

Evening buffering can be provider congestion
If buffering mainly happens at peak evening hours, especially on cable internet, the shared provider network may be crowded rather than your house wiring or router being faulty.
A VPN can reveal throttling
Some plans or providers may slow recognized video traffic. If buffering improves noticeably with a reputable VPN on, traffic shaping is a possible cause.
QoS can prioritize the streaming device
If streaming competes with gaming or downloads, enable Quality of Service in the router and prioritize the TV or streaming box.
One bad app may not be a network issue
If only one service buffers while others work, clear that app cache, sign out and back in, or reinstall the app.
