PlayStation Plus Not Working? How to Fix Games and Benefits Not Loading

Consoles and gaming troubleshooting category image

PlayStation Plus issues can show up as missing monthly games, catalog titles that will not download, or online multiplayer claiming your membership is inactive. The cause is often billing, a stale console cache, or a catalog mismatch.

These steps apply to PS5 and PS4 consoles using PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, or Premium.

Does this affect you?

Use this if your PS Plus benefits do not load even though you believe the subscription is active, or if a PS Plus game suddenly refuses to download or launch.

Confirm your subscription is actually active

Expired payment methods and failed renewals are common, even when the account was active recently.

  1. Open PlayStation’s official website on a browser and sign in.
  2. Go to your account subscriptions or PlayStation Plus section.
  3. Confirm the plan says Active, not Expired or Payment Failed.
  4. If payment failed, update the payment method and complete the renewal.
  5. After the website shows the plan as active, restart the console and check again.

Checking in a browser is useful because it bypasses any stale information cached on the console.

Force the console to re-check your subscription and re-download games

PS5 and PS4 can cache entitlement information locally. Signing out and restarting forces a fresh check.

  1. On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Sign Out.
  2. On PS4, open Settings > Account Management > Sign Out.
  3. Restart the console fully instead of using Rest Mode.
  4. Sign back into the same PlayStation Network account.
  5. Open the PlayStation Plus area of the PlayStation Store and check the monthly games or catalog.
  6. If one game is stuck, delete the failed install from your Library and re-download it from the PS Plus catalog listing.

Re-downloading from the current PS Plus listing can refresh the license when an old library entry is confused.

Check for a region or catalog mismatch

Use these checks when catalog games are missing rather than stuck during download.

  1. Check the account region under account information on PS5 or PS4.
  2. Compare the missing game with PlayStation’s official PS Plus game list for your region.
  3. If you recently changed from Essential to Extra or Premium, give the change a few hours to reflect everywhere.
  4. Check the PlayStation Network status page for PlayStation Store or PS Plus catalog outages.

PS Plus Extra and Premium rotate games in and out. If a downloaded catalog game says your plan no longer covers it, confirm whether the title left the catalog before troubleshooting further.

Family controls and app checks

If only one profile on the console has the problem, review Family and Parental Controls. A child or secondary account can be blocked from content even while the primary account has PS Plus.

The PlayStation App can show subscription and library status separately from the console. If the app is correct but the console is wrong, unplug the console from power for a minute, turn it back on, and sign in again.
