A vague printer failure message usually means Windows failed to hand the job through the print system, not that the printer has a clear hardware fault. The queue or spooler is often the real problem.

Use this when Windows says the printer could not print, the document failed, or a job simply shows Failed without a useful error code.
Clear the stuck job and restart the spooler
This is the fastest fix for most generic failure messages.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. On Windows 10, open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer and open the print queue.
- Cancel any listed jobs. If cancel does not finish, continue anyway.
- Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Right-click Print Spooler and choose Stop.
- Open %WINDIR%System32spoolPRINTERS and delete the leftover job files.
- Return to Services, start Print Spooler, and try printing again.
Set the correct printer and check status
Windows may be sending the job to the wrong place.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the physical printer and confirm it shows Ready, not Offline or Error.
- Set it as default if several printers or virtual printers are installed.
- Turn off Use printer offline if it is enabled.
- Print one simple page.

Reinstall the driver if failures return
If clearing the spooler works only briefly, remove the printer and add it again. If the generic Windows driver keeps failing, install the full driver from the printer maker.
Power cycle the printer too
Some printers keep a small internal queue. Turn the printer off for 30 seconds and back on before testing again.
