Snoozing an email removes it from your inbox temporarily and brings it back later at the time you choose. It is useful for messages you cannot act on now but do not want to forget.
Does this affect you?
Use this for new Outlook for Windows, Outlook.com, and Outlook mobile. Classic Outlook for Windows does not have true Snooze, but flags and reminders can create a similar prompt.
Snooze in new Outlook or Outlook.com
This works from the message list on desktop or web.
- Hover over the message in the inbox list.
- Click the clock icon that appears near the message.
- Choose a preset time such as later today, tomorrow, or next week.
- For an exact time, choose the custom date and time option.
- The message leaves the inbox until the selected time.
When the time arrives, Outlook returns the message to the top of the inbox, usually marked unread.
Snooze in the Outlook mobile app
Use the mobile quick action.
- Open Outlook on iPhone or Android.
- Find the message.
- Swipe slightly or touch and hold to reveal actions.
- Tap the clock or Snooze option.
- Choose a preset or custom time.
The message moves out of the inbox and comes back at the selected time.
Use flags in classic Outlook for Windows
Classic Outlook does not hide messages with Snooze, but it can remind you later.
- Right-click the message.
- Open Follow Up.
- Choose a preset such as Tomorrow, or choose Custom.
- Make sure Reminder is checked.
- Set the date and time and click OK.
The email remains visible, but Outlook adds a flag and shows a reminder at the selected time.
More control
Snooze several emails
Select multiple messages first, then choose the snooze clock. Outlook applies the same return time to all selected messages.
Find or change snoozed mail
Open the Snoozed folder in new Outlook or Outlook.com. From there, change the snooze time or move the message back to the inbox to cancel early.
Search can still find it
Snoozed mail is moved to a Snoozed folder, not deleted. Search all folders if you need to find it before the return time.
Snooze versus Focused Inbox
Focused Inbox sorts mail automatically. Snooze is a manual one-message decision. They can both be used without interfering with each other.
