Orbi firmware updates fix bugs, patch security issues, and sometimes add features. The process is straightforward, but it can take several minutes because the router and satellites may update separately.

Use this for Netgear Orbi mesh systems managed through the Orbi app or the browser admin page.
Update through the Orbi app
The app is the recommended route because it handles the router and satellites together.
- Open the Orbi app while connected to Orbi Wi-Fi.
- Open the menu or network settings.
- Go to Settings > Firmware Update or Check for Updates.
- If an update appears, tap Update Now or Download and Install.
- Keep the router and satellites powered on. Do not unplug anything during the update.
- Wait for completion. This can take 5 to 15 minutes or longer with several satellites.
- Confirm the new firmware version under network details.
Update through a web browser
Use this if the app is not working or you prefer a computer.
- Connect a computer to Orbi Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Open orbilogin.com or 192.168.1.1.
- Log in with the Orbi admin username and password.
- Go to Advanced > Administration > Firmware Update, or use the dashboard check button.
- If a newer version is available, choose Yes or Update.
- Wait for the router to finish and restart before closing the page.

Manual browser updates may need satellite-first order
When updating manually, Netgear commonly recommends updating satellites first, then the main router. The app handles this order automatically.
Automatic updates can help
Look in Orbi app Settings > Firmware Update for automatic or smart update options. These can install non-critical updates overnight.
Give mesh updates time
Wait at least 20 minutes before assuming a multi-node update is frozen. If an error appears, restart the main router and try again after it comes back online.
Check every satellite version
Tap each satellite in the network map. If one stayed behind, run the update again to catch the mismatched unit.
