Alternatives to Copilot inside Word, Excel, and Outlook
These replace some Office-integrated AI work, though not always inside the same app.
- Google Workspace with Gemini: A broader switch from Microsoft Office to Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail, and Meet with Gemini features.

Copilot costs most when you need deep Office integration
Microsoft 365 Copilot can be expensive because it sits on top of Microsoft 365. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity all have free tiers and paid plans that may cost less if you only need general chat.
Direct document access is the big trade-off
Copilot can work inside an open Word document, Excel table, or Outlook thread. General chatbots usually require copying content in and out, which adds friction but can still produce strong output.
Check work rules first
If documents contain company, client, student, or customer data, ask which AI tools your employer or school approves before pasting content into a personal account.
