- The seller quickly pushes the conversation to text, WhatsApp, email, or another app.
- The price is far below market value, especially for electronics, vehicles, or in-demand items.
- The listing uses stock photos instead of real pictures of the item.
- The seller demands payment before pickup or inspection.
- They want a method with little protection, such as bank transfer, Zelle, Cash App, or friends-and-family payments.
- The profile is brand new, has no reviews, few friends, or almost no photos.
- For a local item like furniture, the seller avoids meeting and insists on shipping.
Warning signs when selling
These usually target sellers through fake payments or fake shipping.
- The buyer overpays by accident and asks you to refund the difference. The original payment may later reverse, but your refund is real.
- The buyer sends a payment screenshot instead of money actually appearing in your account.
- They insist on arranging their own courier and send a strange shipping label or fee request.
- They ask you to pay shipping upfront and promise reimbursement.
- For high-value items, they want to send a deposit by an unusual method before seeing the item.

Stay in Facebook systems when possible
Marketplace messaging and checkout give you more records and potential recourse than a side conversation or outside payment.
Verify payment directly
Log into your bank or payment app yourself. Do not rely on screenshots, email receipts, or the buyer’s word.
