LG’s Magic Remote uses Bluetooth or RF for its pointer features, so it has to register with the TV. If pairing drops, the cursor may vanish even though some basic buttons still work.
These steps apply to LG webOS TVs with a Magic Remote, the pointer-style remote with a scroll wheel/OK button in the center.

Use this if a new Magic Remote will not connect, the pointer disappeared after a power outage, the remote stopped after battery replacement, or the cursor jumps around instead of tracking smoothly.
Pair the Magic Remote
- Install fresh batteries in the remote.
- Turn the LG TV on.
- Point the remote at the lower center area of the TV.
- Press and hold the Wheel/OK button for about five seconds.
- Wait for the on-screen message confirming the remote is registered.
Move the remote slightly after pairing. The pointer should appear on screen as a small cursor or circle. If nothing happens, wait a moment and repeat the Wheel/OK hold once more.
Re-pair after a power outage
A hard power cut can break the remote registration even when the remote itself is fine.
- Turn the TV on and let it finish booting.
- Point the remote at the TV and press any button.
- If it does not respond, hold Wheel/OK for five seconds.
- If that fails, unplug the TV for 60 seconds, plug it back in, and repeat pairing.
Deregister and reset the remote
Use this if normal pairing fails or the pointer behaves erratically.
- Press and hold Back and Home together for about five seconds.
- Wait for an unregistering or reset message if the TV displays one.
- Replace the batteries with a fresh pair.
- Point the remote at the TV and press Wheel/OK to register again.
If the pointer pairs but feels jumpy, try recalibrating it by placing the pointer on screen and briefly pressing Wheel/OK. On many webOS versions, that resets pointer tracking or sensitivity.
Use fallback controls
Many LG remotes still send basic directional commands by infrared even when the Magic pointer is not paired. Try the arrow ring and OK button to navigate menus while fixing the pointer connection.
If the remote is lost or completely dead, install the LG ThinQ app on iPhone or Android. It can control many webOS TVs over the same Wi-Fi network. A Magic Remote can actively pair with only one LG TV at a time, so re-pair it when moving it between TVs.
