Safari on Mac can import bookmarks directly from other installed browsers, or from a bookmarks HTML file exported elsewhere. Imported bookmarks usually arrive in a folder named after the source browser so you can review and reorganize them.

Use this for Safari on macOS when moving bookmarks from Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or another browser into Safari.
Import directly from Chrome, Firefox, or Edge
This works when the source browser is installed on the same Mac.
- Open Safari.
- Click File in the menu bar.
- Choose Import From.
- Select Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or another listed browser.
- Make sure Bookmarks is checked. Add History or Passwords too if you want them.
- Click Import.
Imported bookmarks appear after your existing Safari bookmarks, usually grouped in a folder named for the browser they came from.
Import from an exported HTML file
Use this when bookmarks are coming from another computer or an uninstalled browser.
- Export bookmarks from the old browser as an HTML file. Chrome and Edge use Bookmark Manager > Export bookmarks. Firefox uses Manage Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Export Bookmarks to HTML.
- Save the file somewhere easy to find, such as the Desktop.
- Open Safari.
- Choose File > Import From > Bookmarks HTML File.
- Select the HTML file and click Import.
More control
View the imported folder
Click the sidebar button in Safari or press Control+Command+1, then open Bookmarks. You can also use Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks for a full management view.
Move favorites onto the Favorites bar
Imported bookmarks do not always appear on the Favorites bar automatically. Drag important bookmarks into Favorites if you want them shown under the address bar or on the Start Page.
Remove duplicates manually
If you import more than once, Safari does not merge duplicates automatically. Open Edit Bookmarks and delete the extra imported folder or repeated entries.
