A DualSense controller normally charges over USB-C, but the light behavior can be confusing. A controller that will not charge is usually dealing with a bad cable, disabled Rest Mode USB power, a stuck controller state, or an aging battery.
These steps apply to Sony DualSense controllers for PlayStation 5, including the DualSense Edge.

Use this if the controller shows low battery, will not charge, or does not pulse orange when connected.
Charge it the normal way
- Connect a USB-C cable to the port on the top of the controller between the shoulder buttons.
- Plug the other end into the PS5 USB port or a USB wall adapter.
- If using Rest Mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode.
- Enable Supply Power to USB Ports.
- Watch the light bar around the touchpad.
- Pulsing orange means charging. The light turns off when charging is complete.
- Allow roughly two to three hours for a full charge from empty.
The DualSense does not stay solid orange like older controllers. Pulsing orange is the expected charging signal.
Troubleshoot cable and port problems
- Try a different USB-C cable first.
- Try another USB port on the PS5.
- Try a USB wall charger.
- Press and hold the small reset button on the back of the controller near L2 for about five seconds.
- Reconnect with USB and wait a few minutes.
- If the battery was fully drained, leave it connected for a full hour before judging.
A damaged cable is the most common reason a controller appears dead. Some cables charge poorly even if they worked before.
Understand the lights and battery behavior
- Blue means the controller is connected and active.
- Orange pulsing means it is charging.
- White flashes usually mean it is trying to pair.
- No light at all can mean the battery is deeply drained.
Bluetooth play does not charge the controller. It charges only through a wired USB connection or compatible charging dock.
Battery life and replacement signs
The controller speaker, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback all use power. Lowering controller speaker volume under Settings > Accessories > Controllers can extend playtime.
If multiple known-good cables and chargers fail after a reset, the internal battery may be degraded, especially after years of daily use. PlayStation Support can advise on repair or replacement.
