Your iPhone can hide your number for outgoing phone calls if your carrier supports it. You can change the default setting for every call or use a short prefix for one call only.
Caller ID hiding applies to cellular calls. It does not hide your number from emergency services, and support varies by carrier.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if you need to return a call, make a sensitive call, or avoid showing your personal number on someone else’s caller ID.
Hide Caller ID for Every Call
- Open Settings.
- Tap Phone.
- Tap Show My Caller ID.
- Turn the switch off.
Outgoing calls may appear as No Caller ID, Private, Blocked, or Unknown depending on the recipient’s phone and carrier. Turn the setting back on when you want your number shown again.
Hide Caller ID for One Call
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap Keypad.
- Dial *67 followed by the full phone number, including area code.
- Tap the call button.
This hides your number for that call only and does not change your normal Caller ID setting.
Important Caller ID Notes
Emergency Calls
Caller ID hiding does not apply to 911 or other emergency numbers. Dispatchers can still receive your number and location information.
Blocked Calls May Be Rejected
Some businesses, carriers, and call-screening tools reject private or unknown numbers. If a call will not connect, try showing your Caller ID for that call.
Carrier Support
The *67 prefix is common on major US carriers, but prepaid, VoIP, and business systems may behave differently. The Settings option depends on carrier support too.
Messages and FaceTime Are Separate
Hiding phone Caller ID does not change what people see in iMessage or FaceTime. Check Messages and FaceTime settings to choose reachable addresses there.
