Genshin Impact is large, frequently updated, and demanding on storage, memory, and graphics hardware. Crashes often appear after a new version, during loading screens, in busy fights, or when entering newer regions.
These steps apply to Genshin Impact on Windows PC, iPhone, and Android.
Does this affect you?
Use this if Genshin closes to desktop or the phone home screen, especially after updates, during loading, or in graphically heavy areas.
Update drivers and run repair on PC
- Right-click Start, open Device Manager, and expand Display adapters to identify your GPU.
- Download the latest driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel for your exact model.
- Open the Genshin Impact launcher.
- Click the wrench or settings icon.
- Run Repair or Game Resources Repair Tool.
- Restart the PC before launching again.
The repair tool checks game files and redownloads corrupted resources, which is common after large updates.
Free storage and reduce load on mobile
- Check available storage in iPhone Storage or Android Storage settings.
- Keep several gigabytes free beyond Genshin’s install size.
- Open in-game Graphics settings and lower Resolution or Render Resolution.
- Fully close the game instead of leaving it in the background.
- Restart the phone to clear memory.
- Update Genshin through the App Store or Google Play.
Low free storage and limited memory are the most common mobile crash causes.
Clear cache and check background software
- On PC, close Discord overlay, recording tools, RGB utilities, and other software that hooks into rendering.
- If crashes happen when alt-tabbing, test Fullscreen instead of Borderless, or the reverse.
- On Android, use Settings > Apps > Genshin Impact > Storage > Clear Cache if available.
- On iPhone, offload and reinstall the app if cache corruption is suspected.
Your progress is stored with your HoYoverse account, so reinstalling or switching devices does not erase account progress.
Heat, old hardware, and known issues
If crashes happen after 20 to 30 minutes, the phone or laptop may be overheating. Let it cool and avoid playing while charging if heat is severe.
Older devices that met minimum specs years ago may struggle with newer regions and events. If one new area crashes while older areas work, hardware limits may be involved.
Check HoYoverse support channels for known issues if crashes center on a specific event or patch. On PC, attach crash logs from the game folder when contacting support.
