Discovery+ Not Working: How to Fix Streaming Problems

Discovery+ issues usually come down to the app, the device, or the network. Start with a full restart, then check connection strength and app updates before assuming the account is broken.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Discovery+ on Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung TV, LG TV, Android TV, streaming devices, and discoveryplus.com in a browser.

Restart the app and streaming device

A full power cycle clears many loading and crashing issues.

  1. Fully close Discovery+ instead of only backing out. On Roku, press Home and reopen the app. On Fire TV, open the app options and choose Stop or Force stop if available.
  2. Unplug the streaming device or TV from power for about 30 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and wait for it to fully restart.
  4. Open Discovery+ again and sign in if prompted.

Check your internet connection

Buffering usually means the device is not getting a steady connection.

  1. Open Settings > Network on the streaming device or TV and check Wi-Fi signal or Ethernet status.
  2. Pause other heavy internet use, such as downloads, 4K streams, cloud backups, and video calls.
  3. Restart the router by unplugging it for a full minute, then letting it reconnect.
  4. If live channels are part of your plan and they buffer more than on-demand shows, try Ethernet if the device supports it.

Update or reinstall Discovery+

This helps when the app works on other devices but not this TV.

  1. Open the device app store and search Discovery+.
  2. Install any available update.
  3. If it is current and still broken, delete Discovery+, restart the device, reinstall the app, and log back in.

More control

Check streams and devices

Your plan may limit simultaneous streams. Sign in at discoveryplus.com and review Account or connected-device settings.

Clear cache

On Android TV, Fire TV, and some smart TVs, use Settings > Apps > Discovery+ > Clear cache to remove temporary files without signing out.

Check for outages

If Discovery+ is down for everyone, local troubleshooting will not help. Check official social channels or an outage tracker before spending more time.
