Can’t Log Into Amazon? Here’s How to Fix It

Amazon login problems usually come from a wrong saved password, a stuck browser session, a missing verification code, or using the wrong email or phone number. Work through the basics before assuming the account was hacked.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Amazon.com, the Amazon Shopping app, Alexa devices, Fire tablets, Fire TV, and services signed in with the same Amazon account.

Rule out the common causes first

These checks solve many sign-in failures without support.

  1. Confirm you are using the correct email address or mobile number for the account.
  2. Check Caps Lock and type the password manually once in case autofill is inserting an old one.
  3. Clear cookies and cache for amazon.com, or try a private browser window.
  4. If you use the Amazon app, force-close it and install any pending update.
  5. Try another browser, device, or network. If that works, the original device is the problem.

Reset your password or verification method

Use this when the password is rejected or the code never arrives.

  1. Choose Forgot Password from the Amazon sign-in page.
  2. Enter the account email or phone number.
  3. Select email or text message for the one-time password, if both options are available.
  4. Check spam folders for email codes and make sure the phone has signal for texts.
  5. Enter the newest code and create a unique new password.
  6. If Two-Step Verification is enabled and the normal code fails, use a saved backup code if you generated one earlier.
  7. If you still cannot get in, open amazon.com/contact-us and choose the sign-in issue path so support can verify you.

More control

Update recovery details after signing in

Open Your Account > Login & Security and confirm the email, phone number, password, and two-step settings are current. Old recovery details are a common reason simple lockouts become serious.

Use a password manager

Typos and stale autofill entries create many false wrong-password errors. A password manager helps store a unique Amazon password and fill it consistently.

Watch for brief outages

If Amazon sign-in fails across several devices and networks at once, the issue may be regional. Wait 20 to 30 minutes and try again before changing settings repeatedly.
