AirPrint is Apple built-in wireless printing system. It works without installing printer drivers, but it depends on the iPhone and printer being able to discover each other on the same local network. When Wi-Fi changes, the printer sleeps too deeply, or the router blocks discovery, AirPrint can fail silently.

Use this guide if your iPhone or iPad cannot find the printer, the printer appears but jobs do not print, or AirPrint stopped working after an iOS update, router change, or printer restart.
Check the network connection first
Most AirPrint problems come from the phone and printer not being truly visible to each other.
- On the iPhone, open Settings > Wi-Fi and confirm it is on your main home or office Wi-Fi network.
- Check the printer screen or the printer maker app to confirm the printer is on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Avoid guest Wi-Fi. Guest networks commonly block devices from seeing each other, which stops AirPrint discovery.
- After both devices are on the same network, open the app you want to print from, tap Share, then Print, and check the printer list again.
Restart both devices and refresh discovery
If the network looks correct but AirPrint still cannot see the printer, restart the devices cleanly.
- Turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. Wait until the Wi-Fi icon or network status shows connected.
- Restart the iPhone by powering it off, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back on.
- Try printing again from the same app.
- If discovery still fails, open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the info button next to the network, and toggle Private Wi-Fi Address off and back on as a test on stubborn networks.
- Print a test page from the printer control panel or manufacturer app to confirm the printer itself is able to print.
More control
Router settings can block AirPrint
AirPrint uses Bonjour/mDNS discovery. Router options named AP isolation, client isolation, or similar can block that discovery even when both devices use the same Wi-Fi. Turn those isolation settings off on trusted home networks.
Wake the printer first
Some printers disappear from AirPrint while in deep sleep. Press a button on the printer to wake it, wait a minute for Wi-Fi to reconnect, then check the iPhone printer list again.
Try the manufacturer app as a fallback
Apps such as HP Smart, Canon PRINT, Epson Smart Panel, and Brother Mobile Connect may print through the manufacturer account or app connection when local AirPrint discovery is unreliable.
