An LG washer that stops with water still in the drum and shows OE is telling you it cannot drain in the expected time. The problem is usually a blockage or drain-path issue, not the control panel.
These steps apply to LG front-load and top-load washers with electronic fault codes.

OE means the washer still senses water after it tried to drain. Common causes include a clogged pump filter, kinked drain hose, drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe, standpipe height problems, or a failing pump.
Clean the drain pump filter
The filter catches coins, lint, hair ties, buttons, and small items before they reach the pump.
- Cancel the cycle and let the washer sit. Have towels and a shallow pan ready because water may drain when the filter is opened.
- Open the lower front access panel on front-load models. Top-load models may route this differently, so check the manual if you do not see a panel.
- Use the small drain hose behind the panel, if present, to empty remaining water into a pan.
- Twist out the pump filter and remove debris.
- Reinstall the filter securely, cap the small hose, close the panel, and run a drain-only or spin cycle.
Unplug the washer before opening the filter access or reaching near the pump area. Water inside may still be warm, so drain slowly and keep towels nearby.
Check the drain hose for kinks and height
If the filter is clear, check the rest of the drain path.
- Pull the washer out enough to inspect the drain hose for crushing, kinks, or sharp bends.
- Make sure the hose is not shoved too far down into the standpipe and is not sealed airtight.
- Check drain height. LG washers commonly need the drain point roughly 30 to 96 inches above the floor, depending on model instructions.
- If the hose drains to a sink or floor drain, confirm that household drain is not slow or clogged.
Check the drain pump itself
A clean filter and correct hose setup leave the pump as the main suspect.
- With power off and the filter removed, look into the pump opening for anything lodged in the impeller.
- Run a drain cycle briefly and listen. A healthy pump hums steadily and moves water.
- A grinding pump, a pump that hums without moving water, or a pump that stays silent may need replacement.
Too much detergent or non-HE detergent can create suds that confuse drain sensing and contribute to OE. If the filter and hose are clear, reduce detergent and confirm it is HE-labeled.
If nearby sinks back up when the washer drains, the blockage is in the home plumbing, not the washer. That calls for a plumber.
Call an appliance technician if OE remains after the filter, hose, height, detergent, and household drain checks, because pump replacement usually requires cabinet access.
