A Kenmore oven that shows F1 and beeps repeatedly is usually reporting an electronic control problem. The oven may fail to preheat, stop during cooking, or refuse commands until the fault is cleared.
This applies to Kenmore gas and electric ranges with electronic controls. Because Kenmore ranges were built by manufacturers such as Whirlpool and Frigidaire, exact fault details can vary by model.

On many Kenmore ranges, F1 points to the electronic range control, sometimes called the ERC, or to a touchpad key that is stuck and sending a constant signal. Start with a power reset, then check the touchpad behavior before assuming the board has failed.
Power-cycle the range
A control-board glitch can sometimes be cleared with a full power reset.
- Turn off power to the range at the breaker. Electric ranges often use a 240-volt double-pole breaker.
- Leave power off for five full minutes so the control board can discharge.
- Restore power and watch the display.
- Try Bake or Start only after the display returns to standby. If F1 does not return and the oven preheats normally, the reset held.
- If F1 returns as soon as you press a specific command, suspect a stuck key or touchpad issue.
Turn off the breaker before touching anything behind, underneath, or inside the control area. Let the oven cool fully before working near the cavity. On gas ranges, never disconnect or adjust the gas line yourself. If you smell gas, leave the home and call the gas utility from outside.
Check for a stuck touchpad key
A worn membrane key can make the control board think a button is being held down.
- With power off, inspect the touchpad for a key that looks sunken, cracked, greasy, or different from the others.
- After power is restored, press each button once and note whether F1 appears right after one specific key.
- Clean grease and food residue from the panel with a damp cloth, then dry it.
- If one key appears mechanically stuck, a gentle press with a plastic tool may free it. Do not use metal or force the panel.
If the reset only clears F1 briefly and no key seems stuck, the electronic control board is the likely suspect. This is a common Kenmore repair, but the correct part depends on the full model number and the actual manufacturer behind the Kenmore badge.
An oven that throws F1 during baking may shut the heat off as a safety response, which can leave food undercooked. Do not keep using the oven if the code returns during active cooking.
Call an appliance technician if the reset does not hold, if the touchpad appears sealed or damaged, or if the repair requires opening the control panel. A technician can match the model and serial plate to the correct Whirlpool-built or Frigidaire-built control part.
