Ring Doorbell Shows Offline: How to Get It Back Online

A Ring doorbell that goes offline after working for weeks usually has a different cause than one that never paired. Battery, router changes, Wi-Fi signal, and saved network details are the common suspects.

These steps apply to all Ring Video Doorbell models, including battery-powered and hardwired Wired, Pro, Pro 2, and Elite models.

Does this affect you?

Use this if the Ring app suddenly shows Offline for a doorbell that previously worked.

Check the battery level

For battery models, a weak battery may show as offline before a clear low-battery warning appears.

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the doorbell.
  3. Open Device Health.
  4. Check the last reported battery percentage.
  5. If it was below about 10 to 15 percent, remove the doorbell from its bracket.
  6. Charge it with the included USB cable for 4 to 6 hours or until the cable light indicates full charge.
  7. Remount it.
  8. Wait a few minutes for automatic reconnection.

Cold weather reduces battery performance. A doorbell that goes offline mostly in winter may need more frequent charging or a wired power option.

Fix router-side connection drops

  1. Restart the router by unplugging it for 30 seconds.
  2. Plug it back in and wait 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Check whether the Wi-Fi name or password changed.
  4. Open Device Health and review signal strength or RSSI.
  5. Look for new interference, furniture, appliances, or mesh changes.
  6. If needed, use Change Wi-Fi Network from Device Health settings.

Router firmware updates, new mesh systems, or internet provider changes can require manual reconnection even if other devices work.

Reconnect without wiping the doorbell

  1. Open Ring app > Devices > your doorbell > Device Health.
  2. Tap the gear icon or network settings.
  3. Choose Change Wi-Fi Network.
  4. Select the network and enter the password.
  5. If the doorbell cannot receive that command, press and hold the orange setup button for about 15 seconds.
  6. Choose reconnect rather than setting up as a brand-new device when prompted.
  7. Wait a few minutes after reconnecting.

If multiple smart devices go offline at once, check for a router or internet outage. If reconnecting repeatedly fails or the doorbell drops offline again within hours, a full factory reset may be the next step.
