LIFX bulbs connect directly to Wi-Fi, so they do not need a separate bridge. That makes setup simple, but each bulb needs good Wi-Fi where it is installed.
These steps apply to LIFX smart bulb models set up through the LIFX app on iPhone or Android.

Use this if you bought LIFX bulbs and want app, schedule, scene, or voice control without installing a hub.
Set up your first LIFX bulb
Add bulbs one at a time, especially during your first setup, so the app does not confuse multiple bulbs in pairing mode.
- Screw the LIFX bulb into a lamp or fixture.
- Turn the fixture power on.
- Wait for the bulb to flash or cycle colors.
- Download the LIFX app.
- Create an account or sign in.
- Tap + or Add a Product.
- Let the app find the nearby bulb.
- Select the bulb.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.
- Wait for the app to show the bulb online.
- Test brightness and color controls.
- Rename the bulb by room or fixture.
Repeat the process for each additional bulb. LIFX bulbs generally require 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi during setup, so split router bands temporarily if a combined network causes trouble.
Group bulbs and create scenes
- Open the LIFX app.
- Go to Groups.
- Tap + to create a group.
- Select the bulbs that belong together.
- Name the group, such as Kitchen or Bedroom.
- Set bulbs to the brightness and color you want.
- Tap Save as Scene.
- Name the scene, such as Reading or Movie Night.
Groups control several bulbs together. Scenes save a specific look across bulbs and can be launched later from the Scenes tab.
Add voice control and schedules
In LIFX Settings > Works With, link Amazon or Google if you want Alexa or Google Assistant voice control. The bulbs and scenes can then appear in those apps after account linking.
Use Scheduling to run a bulb or scene at a specific time. Day & Dusk can gradually shift color temperature and brightness through the day based on sunrise and sunset, which is useful for warmer evenings and gentle morning light.
