Many Aqara sensors, buttons, locks, and accessories use Zigbee instead of connecting directly to Wi-Fi. The Aqara hub translates those Zigbee devices to your home network and smart-home platforms.
These steps apply to Aqara Hub M2, M3, and Hub E1 models set up through the Aqara Home app.

Use this if you bought an Aqara hub before adding sensors, plugs, buttons, or locks. The hub setup is a one-time step; most sub-devices pair to the hub afterward.
Connect the hub to Wi-Fi
- Plug in the Aqara hub near the router for initial setup.
- Wait for its light to flash blue or show pairing mode.
- Download the Aqara Home app.
- Create an account or sign in.
- Tap + in the top-right corner.
- Choose Add Device or Hub.
- Scan the QR code on the hub or select the model manually.
- Enter your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi password when prompted.
- Wait for the app to confirm the hub is connected.
Most Aqara hubs use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for setup. You can relocate the hub after it is online, but do not hide it in a spot that weakens range to sensors.
Add Zigbee devices to the hub
- Open the Aqara Home app.
- Choose the home with the hub.
- Tap + > Add Device.
- Select the device category, such as Sensors, Switches, or Locks.
- Put the device into pairing mode by holding its reset button until the LED blinks.
- Wait for the app to add it under the hub.
- Name the device and assign it to a room.
Zigbee devices talk to the hub, not the router. Place the hub roughly central to the sensors it will manage. A hub next to the router in a far corner may be worse than one in a central hallway.
HomeKit, alarm, and larger homes
Aqara Hub M2, M3, and E1 support Apple HomeKit. In Aqara Home, open the hub settings and follow the HomeKit prompts to reveal or use a setup code, then add it in Apple Home.
Many Aqara hubs include a speaker that can sound as an alarm, chime, or automation action. Larger homes can use multiple Aqara hubs, but each hub manages its own group of devices; sensors do not always roam automatically between hubs.
