How to Factory Reset a MyQ Garage Door Opener

Smart home troubleshooting category image

A myQ factory reset clears Wi-Fi settings and can remove the opener or hub from your account. It is useful when myQ is offline, setup is stuck, or you are moving and need the next owner to start fresh.

These steps apply to Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers with built-in myQ and to standalone myQ Smart Garage Hub add-on units.

Does this affect you?

Use this if the myQ app no longer recognizes the opener, the hub will not reconnect, or you need to wipe your account before selling the home. Built-in openers and standalone hubs reset differently.

Reset a built-in myQ opener

Use this if myQ is built into the garage door motor unit and there is no separate hub box.

  1. Find the Learn button on the opener motor unit mounted near the ceiling.
  2. Press and hold Learn until the nearby indicator light turns off, usually about 6 seconds.
  3. Understand that this may clear programmed remotes and keypad codes.
  4. For Wi-Fi or myQ reset, press and hold Learn again for about 10 seconds.
  5. Watch for the Wi-Fi status light pattern described in your opener manual.
  6. Open the myQ app.
  7. Remove the old device listing if it still appears.
  8. Use Add Device to set it up again.

Because Learn button behavior varies by model year, use your opener manual for the exact light pattern and reprogramming steps.

Reset a standalone myQ Smart Garage Hub

Use this if you have a separate myQ hub box and door sensor attached to a non-smart opener.

  1. Find the small recessed reset button on the hub.
  2. Use a paper clip or SIM tool to press and hold it for about 10 seconds.
  3. Wait for the hub light to flash rapidly or change color.
  4. Open the myQ app.
  5. Remove the old hub from your account if it still appears.
  6. Tap Add Device.
  7. Follow the pairing steps, including the temporary hub Wi-Fi connection.
  8. Connect it to your 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi network.

myQ devices use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your router uses one combined name for 2.4 and 5 GHz, temporarily split the bands if setup fails.

After the reset

A built-in opener reset can erase remotes and keypads, so reprogram each one using the Learn button and the instructions for your model.

If you are moving, delete the device from your myQ account completely rather than only hiding it from the app. This helps the new owner add it without an ownership conflict.

If the Learn button does not clear the light, the hub will not enter pairing mode, or setup fails after repeated resets, contact myQ or LiftMaster support. Support may walk you through a deeper reset or confirm a hardware fault covered by warranty.
