The Blink Sync Module is the bridge between many Blink cameras and your home network. If it cannot connect to Wi-Fi, cameras paired to it may show offline even though their batteries are fine.
These steps apply to the original Blink Sync Module and Sync Module 2 used with Blink Outdoor, Indoor, Mini, and compatible Blink systems.
Does this affect you?
Use this if setup fails, the module will not join Wi-Fi, or your Blink cameras drop offline after a router change. The module must reach both your Wi-Fi router and Blink’s cloud service before the cameras can work normally.
Confirm 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the password
A large share of Sync Module setup failures come from connecting to the wrong band or entering the right password with one wrong character.
- Open the Blink app.
- Go to the Sync Module settings or begin Add a Device setup.
- Choose Wi-Fi Settings when prompted.
- Select your 2.4 GHz network. If your router shows separate names, avoid the one ending in _5G or 5GHz.
- If your router uses one combined name for both bands, temporarily split the bands in the router app or move the module near the router during setup.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password carefully. Capital letters, symbols, and spaces must match exactly.
Blink modules are meant for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. A 5 GHz-only network may appear convenient, but it will not be the right choice for this device.
Move the module closer and add it again
Once the network details are confirmed, placement is the next thing to test.
- Plug the Sync Module into an outlet close to the router for setup.
- In the Blink app, open Sync Module settings.
- Delete the Sync Module if it is stuck in a failed state.
- Choose Add a Device and add the Sync Module again.
- Wait for the module to complete setup and show online.
- Move it back to its normal location and check signal strength.
Avoid placing the module inside a metal cabinet, behind a TV, in a basement corner, or right next to other wireless gear. If it only works beside the router, add a mesh node, extender, or a better central outlet.
Fully reset the Sync Module
Use a reset when normal setup loops or the module still has old router settings saved.
- Keep the module powered.
- Press the recessed reset button with a paper clip or SIM tool.
- Hold it for about 15 to 20 seconds until the status light changes.
- Unplug the module for about 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and wait for the ready lights.
- Set it up again in the Blink app.
If you use a Sync Module 2 with Ethernet available, a wired connection can remove Wi-Fi signal problems from the equation. For Wi-Fi setups, use your main home network rather than a guest network, because guest isolation can block smart-home devices from communicating correctly.
Router firmware updates, new security settings, or a changed Wi-Fi name can knock IoT devices offline even when phones and laptops still work. If the problem began after a router change, reconnect the module from scratch.
