Warzone Lagging or Stuttering? How to Fix It

Warzone lag can mean network delay or local frame stutter. The symptoms feel similar, but the fixes are different, so identify which one you have before changing settings.

These steps apply to Call of Duty: Warzone on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

Does this affect you?

Use this if shots do not register, players teleport, frame rate drops, or the screen freezes briefly during busy fights.

Fix network lag and packet loss

Use this path when the picture is mostly smooth but the match feels delayed.

  1. Enable the network stat overlay in Warzone options.
  2. Watch ping during matches or in the pre-game lobby.
  3. Ping under about 60 ms is usually fine; spikes above 100 to 150 ms feel bad.
  4. Restart the router by unplugging it for one minute.
  5. Use wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if possible.
  6. Pause downloads, streams, and cloud backups on your home network.
  7. Check router QoS or bandwidth limiting and prioritize the gaming device.
  8. Disable VPN while playing.

Low ping with sudden delayed behavior can indicate packet loss. That usually points to Wi-Fi, router, or ISP trouble.

Fix frame rate stuttering

Use this path when the whole image hitches or judders, even before network symptoms appear.

  1. On PC, open Graphics settings.
  2. Lower Texture Resolution, Texture Filter Anisotropic, and shadow settings.
  3. Set On-Demand Texture Streaming to match your VRAM and drive speed.
  4. On PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, use the game’s Performance mode if available.
  5. Update the PC graphics driver through NVIDIA or AMD software.
  6. Clear the local shader cache if your platform provides that option.
  7. Free drive space, especially if the game is on a hard drive.

If stutter happens mainly when entering a new map area for the first time, shader compilation may be catching up and should improve after a few matches.

Background apps and stable frame caps

Browsers with many tabs, capture software, and overlays compete with Warzone for CPU and memory. Close what you do not need and watch Task Manager for spikes.

A wildly swinging frame rate can feel worse than a lower stable one. Set the frame limit a little below your usual peak so the game holds a steadier pace.
