Nintendo eShop Down? How to Check and What to Do

Consoles and gaming troubleshooting category image

If the Nintendo eShop spins, shows a blank screen, or displays an error code, first check whether Nintendo’s servers are down. If the service is healthy, then troubleshoot the console and network.

These steps apply to the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.

Does this affect you?

Use this if the eShop will not load, browsing fails, purchases fail, or downloads cannot start.

Check Nintendo service status

  1. On a phone or computer, open Nintendo Support.
  2. Find the Nintendo Switch Online Service Status page.
  3. Look for Nintendo eShop in the service list.
  4. Check whether the status is green, yellow, or red.
  5. Read any maintenance notes and time windows.
  6. If Nintendo reports an outage, wait for the service to recover.

Planned maintenance is usually posted ahead of time. Surprise outages may affect only one region.

Rule out console or connection trouble

  1. On Switch, open System Settings > Internet > Test Connection.
  2. If the test fails, restart the router by unplugging it for one full minute.
  3. Hold the console Power button for at least 12 seconds to force a full shutdown.
  4. Turn the console back on and test again.
  5. Open System Settings > System > System Update and install any update.
  6. Use Power Options > Restart for a normal full restart after updates.

Do not use account deregistration or formatting options for a normal eShop loading issue.

What still works during an outage

An eShop outage affects browsing, buying, redeeming, and downloading. Games already installed can still work offline or through normal online play if those services are not affected.

If online multiplayer and cloud saves fail too, the issue may be broader Nintendo Switch Online trouble rather than only eShop.
