Awaiting Endpoint means Discord is trying to join a voice server but is not getting a usable response from the assigned voice endpoint. Text chat may still work, which makes it feel more confusing than a full outage.
These steps apply to Discord on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.
Does this affect you?
Use this if joining a voice channel gets stuck on Awaiting Endpoint and never connects.
Change the voice channel region
- If you have Manage Channel permission, hover over the voice channel and click the gear icon.
- Open the Overview tab.
- Find Region Override.
- Change it from Automatic to a specific region different from the current one.
- Save and try joining again.
- For direct-message calls, restart the call instead because there is no channel region setting.
Discord sets region per voice channel. Automatic can occasionally choose a region that is congested or unreachable for some members.
Reset your local connection
- Quit Discord completely, not just the window.
- Restart your router by unplugging it for a full minute.
- Reopen Discord after the router reconnects.
- Switch to Ethernet if you are on unstable Wi-Fi.
- Turn off VPN and test again.
VPNs often route voice traffic through data centers that Discord may treat differently from normal home connections.
Check firewall and UDP traffic
- On Windows, open Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Allow an app through firewall.
- Make sure Discord is allowed on Private and Public networks.
- If it is missing, add Discord manually.
- Check third-party antivirus firewall rules.
- If you manage the router, make sure UDP traffic is not blocked.
Discord voice uses different traffic than normal text chat. A firewall can block voice while leaving messages untouched.
What not to waste time on
Logging out and back in rarely fixes Awaiting Endpoint because the issue is usually a voice route, not the account session. Change the voice region, restart the network path, and check Discord status first.
