When Discord stops sending messages, joining voice, or loading at all, the useful first step is deciding whether Discord is down or your own app/network is stuck. The fixes are completely different.
These steps apply to Discord desktop, mobile, and browser on any platform.
Does this affect you?
Use this if Discord suddenly spins, voice will not connect, messages fail, or multiple people seem to be having trouble at once.
Check Discord status
- Open a browser and go to discordstatus.com.
- Look at the top banner.
- Green means core systems are reported operational.
- Yellow or red means Discord has an active incident or degraded service.
- Scroll down to see whether Voice, Messages, Push Notifications, or a region is affected.
- Open the incident for engineer updates and timing.
If Discord confirms an outage, there is nothing to repair on your device. Wait for the incident to resolve.
Rule out your own side
- Quit Discord fully from the system tray, Dock, or app switcher.
- Reopen Discord.
- Restart your router by unplugging it for one minute.
- Try Discord in a browser at discord.com/app.
- Turn off VPN and test again.
If the browser version works but the desktop app does not, focus on the app. If everything fails only on your network, focus on internet or router connection.
What to do during an outage
- Follow the official status updates instead of repeatedly reinstalling.
- Avoid force-quitting the app over and over.
- Use text, phone, or another service if you urgently need to reach someone.
- When Discord marks the incident resolved, fully quit and reopen the app for a clean reconnect.
Text and voice can fail independently because they use different infrastructure. A voice-only problem may leave messages working, and a regional issue may affect one group of users more than another.
