Apex Legends stutter is often a sudden half-second freeze right when a fight starts, an area loads, or the game needs new assets. That is different from consistently low FPS and different again from network rubber-banding.
These steps apply to Apex Legends on PC through Steam or the EA app, plus PlayStation and Xbox for the network and restart portions.

Use this if Apex freezes briefly, stutters during fights, tanks frame rate unexpectedly, or snaps your position back during play.
Reset local Apex settings
A corrupted local config can cause strange stutter. Resetting it does not remove account progress, cosmetics, stats, or unlocks.
- Close Apex Legends and close Steam or the EA app.
- On PC, open File Explorer.
- Paste %USERPROFILE%Saved GamesRespawnApexlocal into the address bar and press Enter.
- Rename videoconfig.txt, profile.cfg, and settings.txt by adding .old to the end of each file name.
- Launch Apex again so it creates fresh settings files.
- Reapply resolution, sensitivity, key binds, and video settings one at a time.
If the stutter returns after one specific setting change, that setting is likely involved.
Adjust in-game, driver, and overlay settings
- Update your graphics driver using NVIDIA GeForce Experience or the NVIDIA app, AMD Software, or Intel’s driver tool.
- In Apex, open Settings > Video.
- Turn off Adaptive Supersampling.
- Turn off Motion Blur.
- Set an FPS cap a few frames below your monitor refresh rate if the frame rate is uncapped.
- Disable overlays you do not need, including Discord, Steam, GeForce Experience, and EA app overlays.
- Close browser video, capture apps, and other heavy background programs.
A stable frame time usually feels better than a higher but wildly bouncing frame rate.
Rule out network lag
- Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if possible.
- Stop downloads, cloud backups, and other video streams while testing.
- Watch the in-game ping and packet behavior during a match.
- If other online games lag on the same connection, your network is more likely than Apex.
Rubber-banding and delayed hit registration are network symptoms. Local graphics tweaks will not fix packet loss.
Extra PC and Steam Deck checks
If Apex is on an older hard drive or a nearly full drive, move it to an SSD with at least 15 to 20 percent free space. Texture streaming stutter is much worse on slow storage.
On PC, setting r5apex.exe priority to High in Task Manager can help when background processes compete for CPU time, but the change resets when the game restarts.
On Steam Deck, stutter after an update can be shader compilation. Let the game sit for a few minutes after a new patch before judging performance.
