If Sling TV will not open, sits on a loading screen, crashes back to the home screen, or keeps buffering, the cause is usually the app, the streaming device, Wi-Fi, or a temporary Sling service issue.
These steps apply to Sling TV on Roku, Fire TV and Fire Stick, Samsung and LG smart TVs, Apple TV, Android TV, the Sling website, and mobile apps.
Does this affect you?
Use this if the Sling TV app opens inconsistently, stops playback, will not load live channels, or keeps asking you to sign in. These symptoms do not automatically mean there is a billing problem.
Restart Sling TV and the streaming device
- Fully close the Sling TV app.
- On Roku, press Home to exit, wait a few seconds, then reopen the channel.
- On Fire TV, highlight Sling TV, open the app options, and force stop it if that option is available.
- Unplug the streaming device or TV from power for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and wait for the device to fully start.
- Open Sling TV again and sign in if the app asks.
A restart clears frozen app memory and expired sign-in tokens, which are common after repeated crashes.
Check your internet connection
Sling needs a stable connection, not just a connection that appears online. Plan on around 5 Mbps for a single stream and more for HD or multiple streams at once.
- Open Settings > Network on your streaming device and confirm Wi-Fi is connected with a strong signal.
- Run a speed test from the device if available, or from a phone connected to the same Wi-Fi.
- If the signal is weak, move the router or streaming device closer together.
- Restart the router by unplugging it for a full minute.
- Use Ethernet if your TV or streaming box supports it.
If other streaming apps are buffering too, solve the network problem first. Sling cannot stream smoothly over unstable Wi-Fi.
Update or reinstall the Sling TV app
- Open the app store on your device.
- Search for Sling TV and install any available update.
- If the app is already current but still broken, delete Sling TV.
- Restart the streaming device.
- Reinstall Sling TV and sign in again.
On Roku, highlight Sling TV, press the star button, remove the channel, restart the Roku, and then reinstall it from the Channel Store.
Outages, recordings, and stream limits
If Sling fails on every device in the house, check Sling support, social channels, or an outage tracker before changing more settings. A service outage has to be fixed by Sling.
Cloud DVR recordings can take a little time to process. If one recording will not play immediately after airing, wait a few minutes. If it stays broken while live TV works, delete that recording and test another one.
Sling plans have different simultaneous stream limits. If you hit a limit, sign out of unused TVs or streaming devices and check Account > My Account on Sling’s website.
