Samsung screen mirroring uses Miracast or Wi-Fi Direct for many Android and Galaxy phones. iPhones use AirPlay instead when the Samsung TV supports it.
The TV has to be ready for the connection, the phone has to use the right mirroring menu, and old Wi-Fi Direct pairings or missed prompts can block the session.
Does this affect you?
Use this if a phone cannot find the Samsung TV, mirroring connects and drops, or nothing appears after choosing the TV.
Start mirroring correctly
- On the Samsung TV, press Source and choose Screen Mirroring if your model lists it.
- On an Android or Galaxy phone, open Quick Panel.
- Tap Smart View, Screen Mirroring, or Cast.
- Select the Samsung TV from the list.
- Accept the pairing prompt on the TV.
If the TV is not waiting for a mirroring connection, the phone may not find it.
Fix discovery and drops
- Keep the phone within about 10 feet of the TV while pairing.
- Check Settings > General > External Device Manager > Device Connect Manager.
- Watch for Access Notification prompts and approve them.
- If prompts keep being missed, set notification behavior to first-time only if your model offers it.
- Toggle phone Wi-Fi off and back on.
- Unplug the TV from power for 30 seconds.
- Update the TV under Settings > Support > Software Update.
Repeated drops often point to Wi-Fi interference, especially on crowded 2.4GHz networks.
Mirror an iPhone to Samsung TV
iPhones do not use Miracast. Check Settings > General > External Device Manager > Apple AirPlay Settings. Most Samsung TVs from 2018 onward support AirPlay.
Turn AirPlay on, then open iPhone Control Center > Screen Mirroring and choose the Samsung TV. If AirPlay is unavailable, SmartThings can cast photos, videos, and some content, but may not mirror the entire iPhone screen live.
Advanced checks
Old Wi-Fi Direct pairings can interfere. Check Settings > General > Network > Expert Settings > Wi-Fi Direct and remove devices you no longer use.
Tap View on compatible Galaxy phones and Samsung TVs is only a shortcut into screen mirroring. If one phone fails but another works, the issue may be the phone’s Wi-Fi Direct implementation. A network reset from Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network can clear corrupted TV wireless settings before assuming hardware trouble.
