When Netflix will not load, the app may sit on the logo, show a black screen, spin forever, or freeze before the profile screen. That is different from buffering during playback.
These steps apply to Netflix on Samsung and LG smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Vizio SmartCast, and similar platforms.
Does this affect you?
Use this if Netflix never reaches the profile screen or home page, or if it opens and immediately hangs before you can choose a show.
Restart the app and device
- Close Netflix completely. On Roku, pressing Home exits the app. On other devices, use the app switcher or options menu when available.
- Unplug the TV or streaming box from power.
- Wait a full 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and let it boot fully.
- Open Netflix again.
A full power restart clears stuck memory better than turning the device off with the remote.
Check the internet connection
- Open Settings > Network on the TV or streaming device.
- Run Check Connection, Network Test, or Test Internet Connection.
- If the signal is weak, move the router closer or use Ethernet.
- Restart the router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and waiting for it to reconnect.
Netflix needs a stable connection just to load profiles and account data, so a weak network can stop it before playback begins.
Reinstall Netflix
- Highlight the Netflix app icon.
- Open the options menu.
- Choose Uninstall, Remove, or Delete.
- Restart the TV or streaming device.
- Open the app store and reinstall Netflix.
- Sign in again.
A fresh install replaces corrupted app files that a restart cannot fix.
Rule out outage, updates, and account limits
Check Netflix outage reports or @NetflixHelps if many users are reporting the same loading issue. If Netflix is down, wait instead of changing your setup.
Update the TV or streaming device software from its system update menu. Old software can make a single app unstable. Stream limits usually do not stop Netflix from loading, but if Netflix loads and immediately shows a device or stream error, check account device management from a phone or computer.
